Elon Musk demands the release of imprisoned U.K. activist Tommy Robinson
Tech billionaire Elon Musk has become arguably the most prominent voice in support of free speech rights, not just in the U.S. but also abroad.
Musk has now called for the release from prison of Tommy Robinson, a purportedly "far right" activist in the U.K. who was imprisoned for speaking out against the rape of young children by migrant gangs, the U.K.'s Metro reported.
In doing so, Musk has simultaneously picked a fight against some of the U.K.'s leftist political leaders, including Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Safeguarding Minister Jess Phillips, who he believes should be in prison instead of Robinson.
Imprisoned for "telling the truth"
In multiple posts on New Year's Day, Musk posted a variation of the message: "Free Tommy Robinson."
He also shared a documentary that is banned in the U.K. and was created by Robinson that draws attention to the so-called "grooming gangs" of predominately adult migrant men who prey upon and sexually abuse young girls and boys.
In one of several posts addressing the topic, Musk wrote, "Why is Tommy Robinson in a solitary confinement prison for telling the truth? He should be freed and those who covered up this travesty should take his place in that cell."
That would include Minister Phillips, whom Musk suggested "deserves to be in prison" after she denied multiple requests to open an official government-led investigation into allegations of child abuse and sexual exploitation in Oldham, per Metro.
The excuse Phillips used to reject those requests was that it would be better for the Oldham Council to conduct an inquiry of its own, as had occurred years prior in other locales, "rather than for the government to intervene."
Taking on the U.K.'s top political leaders
Metro further reported that Musk took aim at PM Starmer and insinuated that he, in a prior prosecutorial role, had essentially permitted the migrant grooming gangs to rape and abuse young children without facing justice.
"In the UK, serious crimes such as rape require the Crown Prosecution Service's approval for the police to charge suspects," Musk said. "Who was the head of the CPS when rape gangs were allowed to exploit young girls without facing justice? Keir Starmer, 2008 -2013."
In a follow-up post, he added, "Who is the boss of Jess Phillips right now? Keir Stamer. The real reason she's refusing to investigate the rape gangs is that it would obviously lead to the blaming of Keir Stamer (head of the CPS at the time)."
Guilty of speaking out about his beliefs
According to Metro, Robinson was ordered jailed in October to serve an 18-month sentence after being deemed guilty of defaming a Syrian refugee in a video made at a protest earlier in the year.
Robinson has been in and out of trouble in the U.K. for years because of his outspoken opposition to the flood of migrants into his beloved homeland and the impact their differing cultural norms have had on U.K. society, particularly regarding the treatment of young children.
For that, he has been repeatedly silenced and smeared by the government and the media, but remains unbowed and unrepentant for speaking what he believes is the unvarnished truth about the reality of the situation in the U.K.
