Changes are spreading far and wide in Washington D.C. as the Trump administration begins its takeover of the official offices.

One of the most closely watched internal chances is the creation of a department with Silicon Valley tycoon and richest man in the world Elon Musk, as The Daily Mail reported.

According to various sources who are aware with the situation, the Treasury Department has granted Elon Musk and representatives from his Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) team new access.

The reports indicate that Musk now has access to the extensive federal payment system that is responsible for managing trillions of dollars in government spending.

What He's Accessing

The payment system, which is basically a checkbook for the entire federal government, is a carefully guarded operation operated by career officials.

Only a small number of people are allowed to access the information since it contains sensitive information about hundreds of millions of Americans.

It has been reported that the demand for access to the payment system created such a rift within the Treasury Department.

David Lebryk, the career official who previously oversaw it, was allegedly placed on administrative leave last week for refusing to give Musk and his government efficiency team access to the database.

The Removal

On Friday, Lebryk notified colleagues at the department he would be resigning, sources told reporters.

If Musk or his team tried to stop these payments, they would probably run into legal problems because Congress has already approved the money.

According to sources, if Musk or his representatives were to ask for adjustments to be made to the system, those requests would be reviewed internally by officials from the Treasury Department.

From Congress

According to a letter issued by Senate Finance Committee ranking Democrat Ron Wyden to Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, "politically-motivated meddling" in the payment systems "risks severe damage to our country and the economy."

"To put it bluntly, these payment systems simply cannot fail, and any politically-motivated meddling in them risks severe damage to our country and the economy," Wyden said in his letter.

"I am deeply concerned that following the federal grant and loan freeze earlier this week, these officials associated with Musk may have intended to access these payment systems to illegally withhold payments to any number of programs.I can think of no good reason why political operators who have demonstrated a blatant disregard for the law would need access to these sensitive, missioncritical systems," Wyden wrote.
