While former President Donald Trump has long been accused by critics of engaging in inflammatory rhetoric, Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) is no stranger to harsh words either.

That fact was on display again this weekend when the longtime California Democrat suggested that Trump is a threat to the nation's health.

Pelosi reacts to Trump's claim that she caused January 6

As Breitbart noted, Pelosi's comments came on Sunday when she was asked by host Jonathan Capehart about an interview Trump did with fellow NBC News host Kristen Welker.

"Nancy Pelosi was in charge of security and turned down 10,000 soldiers, if she didn’t turn down the soldiers, you wouldn’t have January 6,"  he remarked at one point.

That led Capehart to ask Pelosi, "The former president of the United States, Donald Trump, on 'Meet the Press,' says this, and I’m quoting you directly, him directly, 'Nancy Pelosi is responsible for January 6.' He is blaming you for the attack on the Capitol that he instigated. Your response?"

Former House speaker says Trump is "a sickness"

"The former occupant of the White House has always been about projection. He knows that he’s responsible for that, so he projects it on to others," Pelosi responded.

"His instigation of it, insurrection, and assault in our Constitution, the day we were supposed to approve, and we did, the work of the Electoral College results, the assault on the Capitol building, the assault on the Constitution, the assault on our democracy. Shame on him," she insisted.

"He always projects. Now he used to say, well, she turned down my troops no, we, Chuck Schumer and I begged him to send the troops again and again," the former House speaker continued.

Pelosi then went on to compare the former president to a disease, stating, "There is the sickness here that has to be an intervention. That intervention has to be the election, which we have to win."

"That’s one of the reasons why I am running again, to fight for our democracy. Which is at stake, if he’s on the ballot," she concluded.

Trump will "look at" pardoning some January 6 defendants

In addition to blaming Pelosi for the riot on Capitol Hill, Trump also told Welker that he would be open to pardoning some January 6 defendants.

"I would certainly look at it. I would look at that and I would look at all the other people that have suffered, the J6," Trump declared.
