Earlier this week, The Atlantic magazine editor-in-chief Jeffrey Goldberg announced that he had been accidentally added to a White House chat group on the text messaging app Signal.

The news raised eyebrows in Washington, with National Security Advisor Michael Waltz saying that he takes "full responsibility" for the "embarrassing" leak.

Waltz calls Goldberg "the bottom scum of journalists"

According to Fox News, Waltz's acknowledgement came during a Tuesday evening appearance on its show "The Ingraham Angle."

"I take full responsibility. I built the group," Waltz told host Laura Ingraham. "It's embarrassing. We're going to get to the bottom of it."

In addition to stating that DOGE head Elon Musk was looking into the mishap, Waltz also voiced negative thoughts regarding Goldberg.

"I can tell you for 100% I don't know this guy. I know him by his horrible reputation, and he really is the bottom scum of journalists," Waltz declared.

Trump says Waltz will remain as national security adviser

"And I know him in the sense that he hates the president, but I don't text him. He wasn't on my phone. And we're going to figure out how this happened," the national security adviser continued.

Fox News noted that The Atlantic responded to Waltz's comments concerning Goldberg with a sharply worded statement of its own.

The statement alleged that "attempts to disparage and discredit The Atlantic, our editor, and our reporting follow an obvious playbook by elected officials and others in power who are hostile to journalists and the First Amendment rights of all Americans."

For his part, President Donald Trump has come to Waltz's defense and told Fox News that the national security adviser will not be fired.

White House says no classified material was disclosed

Meanwhile, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt indicated that although there was discussion of military operations in Yemen against Houthi terrorists, "no classified material was sent to the thread."

"As the National Security Council stated, the White House is looking into how Goldberg’s number was inadvertently added to the thread," she explained.

"Thanks to the strong and decisive leadership of President Trump, and everyone in the group, the Houthi strikes were successful and effective," Leavitt went on to add.
