New details have been revealed about the second attempt on President-Elect Donald Trump's life.

The detail is that the U.S. Secret Service actually opened fire on the shooter - and missed, badly.

Take a look at this, from the Fox News Channel's Jesse Watters:

Background

As stated at the outset, this regard the second assassination attempt on Trump - the one that was carried out by Ryan Wesley Routh on Sept. 15, 2024.

Routh is the man who waited with a gun at a golf course in West Palm Beach, Florida, where Trump was playing a round.

It has previously been reported that a Secret Service agent noticed the barrel of Routh's rifle sticking through a fence waiting for Trump to reach that part of the golf course. The Secret Service, however, engaged Routh, and he was prevented from getting a shot off at the president.

Routh then fled the scene before being caught by local law enforcement, about 40 minutes later.

This all makes it seem as though the Secret Service did a decent job, perhaps making up for their errors in the first assassination attempt on Trump. But, new information suggests that the Secret Service may not have done that great of a job.

The latest

New reporting reveals that the Secret Service, after noticing Routh in the bushes, actually shot at him several times and missed. The catch is that the Secret Service agent who fired the shots was only about five feet away from Routh.

The New York Post reports:

Secret Service agent was five feet away from wannabe-assassin Ryan Wesley Routh and fired off six shots — all of which failed to hit President-elect Donald Trump’s would-be killer, Fox News host Jesse Watters noted in disbelief Wednesday.

This revelation, according to the outlet, comes from a report into the assassination attempt that was based on an investigation by the U.S. House of Representatives.

"He was only five feet away and he missed [Routh] not once, not twice, but six times," Watters emphasized, adding, "He missed him six times, from five feet. How does a trained agent who passed the firearms test miss a target five feet away?"

That is indeed the question, and we have yet to be given an answer.
