New documents show Twitter staff censored conservatives, hid meetings with federal agencies

Both Republican politicians and ordinary conservatives have long suspected that Twitter was working to silence their message. This week, new platform owner Elon Musk confirmed that their suspicions were accurate.

As the Daily Caller reported, Musk has provided independent journalist Matt Taibbi with a slew of internal communications at the company.

Republicans punished for questioning election, Democrats given a pass

Those discussions cover the decision to ban former President Donald Trump, suppression of the New York Post's reporting on Hunter Biden's laptop, collusion with federal law enforcement, and a policy of cracking down on Republicans while giving Democrats a pass.

In one example of the latter, Twitter's head of Trust and Safety Yoel Roth intervened during the 2020 election to remove a warning label from tweets put out by former Attorney General Eric Holder.

Holder alleged that the Trump administration had "deliberately crippled" the Post Office in an act of election interference.

Despite there being no evidence to support Holder's contention, Roth dubbed it to be "factually accurate." Meanwhile, Republicans were routinely shut down for suggesting that the election had been tampered with.

Twitter official tried to conceal meetings with federal agencies

What's more, Roth also attempted to conceal the regular meetings he was having with representatives from federal agencies.

Taibbi posted these and other revelations in a Twitter thread on Friday evening, and they came in the wake of a previous document dump put out a week prior.

Taibbi's earlier thread detailed how Twitter staff would "handle" problems for the Biden campaign by removing tweets which were critical of the Democratic nominee.

In addition to Taibbi, Musk provided Twitter documents to journalist Bari Weiss, who detailed in a thread of her own how conservatives were being shadow banned. Stanford University's Dr. Jay Bhattacharya was similarly targeted after he suggested that COVID lockdowns were harming children.
