New documents show White House was involved in raid on Trump's home

Former President Donald Trump made headlines last summer after his Florida home was raided by federal agents in search of classified documents.

Although the Biden White House claimed that it was not involved in the search, Fox News reported that newly released documents indicate otherwise.

Officials accused of having "unlawfully abused their power and then lied about it"

Fox News cited an announcement from the conservative group America First Legal which says it obtained the material via a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request.

Reed D. Rubinstein serves as senior counselor as well as director of oversight and investigations at America First Legal, and he said the revelations point to corruption.

"The evidence further suggests that Biden officials in the Executive Office of the President and the Department of Justice unlawfully abused their power and then lied about it to the American people," Rubinstein was quoted as saying in a social media post on Tuesday.

"This government, it seems, acknowledges no limits on its power to harass, intimidate, and silence its political opponents," he added.

Biden administration compared to a "banana republic"

Meanwhile, Trump 2024 campaign consultant Alex Bruesewitz likened news of direct White House involvement to the sort of behavior commonly seen in a "banana republic."

America First Legal laid out its findings in a series of tweets, saying, "Records obtained from our investigation into the circumstances surrounding the Mar-a-Lago raid further confirm that the FBI obtained access to these records through a “special access request” from the Biden White House on behalf of the DOJ."

Coordination between White House and Department of Justice

"On August 8, 2022, the FBI conducted an unprecedented raid of Mar-a-Lago on the ground that potentially classified records existed there," the group recalled.

"According to press reports, Biden Administration aides were surprised to hear of this development," it added while posting a screenshot of a New York Times article from August of 2022.

"However, the new records we obtained from our investigation into the circumstances of the Mar-a-Lago raid reveal the Biden White House [and] DOJ coordinated to obtain the Trump records and perhaps create a pretext for the law enforcement raid by way of a 'special access request,'" the organization stated.

"What this means is that there are substantial discrepancies between what the Archives has told Congress and what appears in its internal communications," it stressed.
