Former President Donald Trump's CNN town hall event backfired on the network and Democrats in a big way. It also triggered some of Trump's top Republican enemies.

According to the Washington Examiner, New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu (R) had a virtual meltdown over Trump's townhall event, which was held in his state.

The governor was especially upset at the reactions from the audience at the town hall, claiming he knew many of the attendees and was especially sickened at their laughter and cheers when Trump made comments about writer E. Jean Carroll.

The event was a ratings boon for CNN, a network that has struggled to stay above water since Trump left office.

What did he say?

The governor held nothing back during an interview with former White House press secretary Jen Psaki, now an MSNBC host.

"It was embarrassing," Sununu told Psaki on Sunday. "I knew pretty much everybody in that audience — they're all Trump supporters."

"I wasn't surprised to hear the support," Sununu continued. "When you're talking about a serious issue like that, and laughter and mocking and all that, it's completely inappropriate, without a doubt. And it doesn't shine a positive light on New Hampshire."

Sununu was referencing the audible cheers and laughter when Trump would answer questions at the town hall event, with most of it criticism toward his political enemies and opponents.

The governor displayed the full extend of his Trump Derangement Syndrome (TDS) by stating, "Maybe they’re undeclared voters, but I believe every single one of them had voted for Trump at some point," adding, "I don’t know … how they determined that and set that up, but obviously it was a roomful of Trump supporters."

Cheered across social media

The former president was celebrated by many after the event, which many believe didn't turn out the way CNN brass maybe expected it to.

"God, I missed him!" Fox News host Greg Gutfeld said.

There was initial skepticism from Trump fans when the CNN town hall event was announced, but it's clear that it went over quite well, and was a brilliant campaign decision by Trump's team, undoubtedly.
