New 'Lose Cruz' PAC launches seven-figure effort to defeat Texas senator
A new political action committee is committing more than a million dollars to defeat Texas Republican Sen. Ted Cruz in 2024.
The Lose Cruz PAC is seeking to flip a Texas Senate seat to Democrats for the first time in 30 years.
The new 'Lose Cruz' PAC is aiming to seize on @TedCruz’s low approval ratings and flip a Texas Senate seat blue for the first time since 1993.
The group has not yet endorsed a challenger, but it could boost Democrat @RepColinAllred, who is running.https://t.co/DcZA9yhVZ3

The purpose
“LoseCruz is a campaign led by Texans who are laser-focused on one goal: defeating Ted Cruz. We’re shining a light on his record to remind folks just how extreme and out of touch he is with everyday Texans,” the group wrote on its website.
“Cruz represents a clear and present danger to American democracy. His destructive brand of politics and extremism has divided our country and limited our freedoms," it added.

The leader
Olivia Juliana, the leader of the new PAC, is just 20 years old.
"At 20 years old— I’ve become one of the youngest Senior Advisors to a PAC in all of American Politics," she tweeted.
"I’ll be spending the next 17 months hounding Ted Cruz for his failures and cowardice. Join me in my efforts and follow@LoseCruzPAC to stay up to date with our work," she continued.

"Cruz is one of the few vulnerable Senate Republicans in 2024, while Democrats are forced to defend 23 Senate seats next year," Axios reported.
Uphill battle
"Rep. Colin Allred (D-TX) has stepped up as a serious Cruz challenger. The PAC will not support any particular Democratic candidate for now, focused instead on general opposition to Cruz," it added.
The latest push comes as Cruz has continued to push back against President Joe Biden's nominees in the Senate to successfully end some from leading in the administration.
The new effort faces an uphill battle, however, as Cruz easily won his last matchup in 2018 despite a strong push by Democrats.
