New Mexico judge and his wife accused of hiding foreign gang member in their home
This past week saw the arrest of a former Democratic state judge and his wife following a raid by federal agents on their New Mexico home.
Authorities say that the pair attempted to protect a suspected Venezuelan gang member from deportation by hiding him in their house.
Pair faces charges of tampering with evidence
According to the Daily Wire, former Dona Ana County Magistrate Judge Jose "Joel" Cano and his wife Nancy were taken into custody by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents on Thursday.
The pair are facing charges of tampering with evidence in connection with 23-year-old Venezuelan national Cristhian Ortega-Lopez.
Ortega-Lopez, who is said to be affiliated with the Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua, was also arrested during the raid on Cano's home.
Cano had resigned his position earlier in the week following a court order which prohibited him from holding judicial office in New Mexico.
Homeland Security secretary touts arrests in social media post
The Daily Wire noted how Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem commented on the arrest of Cano and his wife in a social media post.
Under President Trump, we have arrested over 150,000 aliens—including more than 600 members of the vicious Tren de Aragua gang.
If you are here illegally and break the law, we will hunt you down, arrest you and lock you up.
That’s a promise. https://t.co/mjdGOwXkfI

"If you are here illegally and break the law, we will hunt you down, arrest you and lock you up," the secretary continued before adding, "That’s a promise."
Milwaukee judge accused of hiding an illegal alien in her jury room
Cano is not the only judicial official to be arrested in recent days for allegedly harboring an illegal alien, as Milwaukee County Circuit Court Judge Hannah Dugan was as well.
Fox News reported that Dugan was taken into custody on Friday over accusations that she hid a previously deported individual in her jury room in order to shield him from ICE agents.
Dugan's alleged actions were condemned by Attorney General Pam Bondi during an appearance on Fox News' "America Reports," saying, "No one's above the laws in this country."
"And if you are destroying evidence, if you're obstructing justice, when you have victims sitting in a courtroom of domestic violence and you're escorting a criminal defendant out a back door, it will not be tolerated, and it is a crime in the United States of America. Doesn't matter who you are, you're going to be prosecuted," Bondi declared.
