In a development that may leave some Democrats panicking, new poll numbers show former President Donald Trump ahead of President Joe Biden in Nevada.

According to Breitbart, the survey was commissioned by former New York Republican Rep. Lee Zeldin's Leadership America Needs PAC and conducted by McLaughlin & Associates.

Survey shows Biden lagging one point behind Trump in swing state

Carried out among 400 likely general election voters between May 22 and May 24, the poll showed Trump being supported by 48% of respondents compared with 47% who backed Biden.

It also had bad news for Nevada Democratic Sen. Jacky Rosen, as it put her two points behind a generic Republican candidate.

In another blow for Democrats, the poll found 56% expressed disapproval of how Biden is handling his job as president, with 50% saying that they strongly disapprove.

Trump ahead among Hispanics and independent voters

What's more, Trump appears to be ahead with some of the state's key groups, including Hispanic voters and independents.

The survey showed him beating his successor among Nevada Latinos by 54% to 41%. Meanwhile, Trump had a 16-point lead with independent men and a three-point lead with independent women.

The biggest share of voters cited the "economy, inflation, and jobs" (23%) as the reason for their choice. That was followed by "immigration and the border" (13%) and "politicians and government" (12%).

While Nevada largely voted Republican in presidential contests between 1968 and 2004, it has gone Democrat in every cycle since President Barack Obama carried the state in 2008. However, Biden only managed to eke out a 2.4% victory there in 2020.

CNN poll shows two-thirds of Americans see Biden as a "disaster" or a "setback"

The Nevada poll isn't Biden's only cause for concern, as a survey published by CNN late last month found 66% of Americans view a 2024 Biden victory as being either a "disaster" or a "setback" for the United States.

CNN host Jake Tapper called the poll's findings "horrible news, horrible for Joe Biden" and added that they "are some bad numbers."

CNN political director David Challian remarked that "[Trump's] hardcore supporters are more into him than perhaps Biden's hardcore supporters are into him."
