According to Fox News, President Joe Biden bested former President Donald Trump by 4.5% in the 2020 election's popular vote total.

However, polling data published just over two years later suggests that Biden's popular vote victory could well be reversed in 2024.

New poll shows Trump with massive lead

A survey released by the Washington Post and ABC News on Sunday found Trump to be well ahead of Biden in a 51% to 42% split.

The poll, which was carried out between September 15 and September 20 also contained other troubling findings for the president.

One of them is Biden's overall approval rating, which stands at 37%. What's more, whereas 20% of respondents said they strongly approve of how the president has handled his job, 45% say that they strongly disapprove.

Meanwhile, Trump's overall approval rating was 11 points higher. While 41% say they strongly disapproved of how he did his job as president, 33% express strong approval.

Another poll has Trump up by one point

In an article written about the poll, the Post took pains to point out that its findings on voter support levels for Trump and Biden are "significantly at odds with other public polls."

"The difference between this poll and others, as well as the unusual makeup of Trump’s and Biden’s coalitions in this survey, suggest it is probably an outlier," it stressed.

However, this was not the only survey to find Trump ahead of his successor, as another poll conducted during the same time frame by J.L. Partners put the Republican candidate ahead by one point.

"Just three months ago, a Trump-Biden rematch looked like the Democrats’ race to lose. Now all has changed and Donald Trump is in the ascendancy once more," J.L. Partners co-founder James Johnson told the Daily Mail.

"Not only is Trump maximizing enthusiasm amongst Republicans, he has also leapfrogged Biden amongst independents, is squeezing him amongst black and Hispanic voters, and is picking up support amongst younger men," Johnson added.

Pollster: Economic worries and Biden's age major factors

"This comes as voters express their overwhelming dissatisfaction with Biden’s handling of the economy; people simply are not feeling the improved situation that economic growth figures and falling inflation suggest. There are also profound concerns about Biden's age," the pollster continued.

"One other factor: the Trump mugshot," Johnson pointed out. "For many independent voters – previously concerned by Trump’s indictments – that mugshot prompted doubt about the legitimacy of the criminal prosecutions the former president is facing."

"There is plenty of time to run, but Democrats who savored the idea of Biden facing Trump in the general election may end up having serious cause for regret," he concluded.
