New York AG Letitia James asks court to dismiss her fraud charges

New York Attorney General Letitia James (D) is now asking the court to dismiss the mortgage fraud charges that have been brought against her by federal prosecutors.

Breitbart News reports that James filed the dismissal motion on Friday.

James is trying to claim that the administration of President Donald Trump is conducting a politically motivated prosecution of her. Breitbart highlights the irony, here, as James did, in fact, bring a politically motivated prosecution against Trump. She even bragged about doing so.

The dismissal motion

CBS News provides an overview of the dismissal motion.

Per the outlet:

The motion, which had been expected, argues the case against James was driven by personal "animus" that arose out of James' civil fraud lawsuit against President Trump and his companies in her capacity as state attorney general.

The outlet goes on to quote from the motion.

It, impart, reads:

This lawsuit, and AG James' outspoken criticism of the President, triggered six years of targeted attacks. President Trump and his allies have used every insulting term in their vocabulary to deride AG James and call for criminal penalties in retaliation for the exercise of her rights and fulfillment of her statutory duties to fulfill her obligations as New York state's attorney general.

CBS further notes that this filing is very similar to the recent one filed by ex-FBI Director James Comey, who is also looking to get the charges brought against him by the Trump administration thrown out. Perhaps, this is not a coincidence.

So much irony

Breitbart really highlights the irony of this situation.

It notes:

Ironically, the motion also acknowledges the attorney general’s campaign promise to use her office go after Trump, though the filing quotes more tame comments James made during her campaign for New York state’s top lawyer in 2018.

There's more.

The outlet, later adds:

Charges against the AG present a further irony in light of the loan fraud case she brought against the president. The Department of Justice accuses James of making deceptive statements on mortgage papers to get favorable loan terms when purchasing a modest house in Norfolk, Virginia. She has pled not guilty. James filed her lawsuit in 2022 against Donald Trump, his three oldest children, and his companies, alleging the real estate developer had overvalued his properties to get loans, though no damages were cited to lenders who had vetted and approved the applications.

In a sense, it would appear that James has brought all of this upon herself.
