New York AG Letitia James blames fraud charges on 'weaponized justice system'
Last year saw New York Attorney General Letitia James win a half-billion-dollar civil judgment against President Donald Trump in what critics denounced as a politically motivated lawsuit.
Yet in an ironic twist, James is now claiming that she has been caught in the grip of a weaponized justice system.
James says the Department of Justice is being used for "revenge"
According to Breitbart, she made that assertion while speaking to reporters on Friday after pleading not guilty to two charges of felony bank fraud and making false statements to a financial institution.

This is about a justice system which has been weaponized. A justice system which has been used as a tool of revenge," the state attorney general declared.
Breitbart noted how after entering her not guilty plea, James went on to ask that Judge Jamar Walker dismiss the indictment, arguing that the appointment of acting U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia Lindsey Halligan was invalid.
Attorney general alleged claimed a home in Virginia as her "principal residence"
James' legal troubles began in April when ABC News reported that Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) Director William Pulte sent a letter to the Department of Justice (DOJ).
In it, Pulte noted how James had listed a property located in Norfolk, Virginia as her "principal residence" when filling out a mortgage document.
She did this "despite being a statewide public office holder in the state of New York at that same time and primarily residing in the state of New York."
Further Pulte also highlighted a building permit from July of 2024 which lists another property in New York "as the 'JAMES RESIDENCE' and states 'Remain Occupied'."
"It appears Ms. James’ property and mortgage-related misrepresentations may have continued to her recent 2023 Norfolk, VA property purchase in order to secure a lower interest rate and more favorable loan terms," the FHFA director alleged.
Appeals court threw out judgment against Trump
James's not guilty plea came roughly two months after a New York state appellate court tossed out the nearly $500 million judgment which she had earlier won against the president.
Fox News quoted Justice David Friedman as saying that James' "ultimate goal was not market hygiene … but political hygiene, ending with the derailment of President Trump’s political career and the destruction of his real estate business."
For his part, Trump described the state attorney general's lawsuit as being "a Political Witch Hunt, in a business sense, the likes of which no one has ever seen before."
