New York GOP votes to disband Young Republicans chapter over messaging scandal
Politico sparked an uproar this past week when it published Telegram chat messages in which members of the Young Republicans made shocking comments about Hitler and rape.
In response, GOP leaders in New York unanimously voted to abolish their state's chapter of the organization.
Group to be reconstituted under new leadership
According to Spectrum News 13, that announcement came in the form of a statement released on Friday by NYGOP Chair Ed Cox.
"Today, the Executive Committee of the New York Republican State Committee unanimously voted to suspend authorization of the New York State Young Republicans following a report of a group chat that included racist and antisemitic language on the part of leadership," Cox said.
"The Young Republicans was already grossly mismanaged, and vile language of the sort made in the group chat has no place in our party or its subsidiary organizations," he continued.
Spectrum News explained that by suspending the Young Republicans' authorization, state GOP officials will have the authority to reconstitute the group and appoint new leadership.
J.D. Vance accuses Democrats of hypocrisy
While Democrats like House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries have been quick to voice condemnation of the Young Republicans, Vice President J.D. Vance has responded by accusing them of hypocrisy.
As Fox News noted, Vance put up a social media post which referenced text messages sent by Jay Jones, a Democrat who is running to become Virginia's attorney general.
This is far worse than anything said in a college group chat, and the guy who said it could become the AG of Virginia. I refuse to join the pearl clutching when powerful people call for political violence. pic.twitter.com/kV57Wq7BLG

"This is far worse than anything said in a college group chat, and the guy who said it could become the AG of Virginia," Vance asserted.
"I refuse to join the pearl clutching when powerful people call for political violence," the vice president went on to contend.
Jones talked about murdering political rival and his children
According to National Review, Jones sent a series of text messages three years ago in which he talked about murdering a former state House Speaker Todd Gilbert and his children.
"Three people, two bullets," Jones wrote. "Gilbert, hitler, and pol pot. Gilbert gets two bullets to the head. Spoiler: put Gilbert in the crew with the two worst people you know and he receives both bullets every time."
"Yes, I've told you this before," Jones stated when the text recipient complained about earlier violent remarks which he had made regarding Gilbert's children. "Only when people feel pain personally do they move on policy."
