Former President Donald Trump has cemented himself as the GOP's presidential nominee. It's just a formality at this point.

The New York Post ran a bombshell report over the weekend claiming that Robert F. Kennedy Jr. was approached by Trump's camp early on about a VP spot.

The outlet noted:

“Trump operatives expressed an interest in Kennedy early on, but it was all premature,” said one person familiar with the matter, adding that it was “right out of the box when Bobby announced” in April 2023 he was running for president.

Notably, the unidentified source familiar with the talks added, "Anything’s possible. I wouldn’t write it off by any means."

Still alive?

Some donors believe that the idea is still "alive" within Trump's circle, as RFK Jr. would undoubtedly bring in voters that Trump would likely not pull on his own.

"It’s very much behind the scenes at this stage. As we progress you might see it bubble up a little bit more," the donor said. "Bobby can bring new people to the polls."

Steve Bannon, a former chief White House strategist for Trump, said that a ticket with Trump and RFK would result in a "massive landslide."

While reps from both presidential candidate's camps didn't return comment for the Post's report, it didn't take long for the report to be shot down.

Trump camp fires back

According to Breitbart, after the report and after Fox News ran with it, a Trump adviser tossed ice cold water on it, making clear that nobody from the Trump camp ever approached RFK Jr. about a veep spot.

"This is 100% FAKE NEWS - NO ONE from the Trump Campaign ever approached RFK jr (or ever will) - one of the most LIBERAL and radical environmentalists in the country. For all the fake news- update your stories," Chris LaCivita wrote on X.

Social media users responded to LaCivita's reply.

"We know this. MAGA is not taking any Democrats or backstabbers to the WH in 2025," one X user wrote.

Only time will tell who Trump ultimately selects for the job.
