Newsom makes WH list of liberals responsible for dangerous anti-ICE rhetoric

Liberal politicians at local, state, and federal levels have made no secret of the disdain with which they regard not just President Donald Trump, but also the federal agents tasked with carrying out his immigration agenda.

Calling out the incendiary rhetoric with which some on the left have expressed their opposition to the president’s strategy, the White House this week released a list of the top 30 worst offenders, a collection of names that includes those of California Gov. Gavin Newsom, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, and Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker, all Democrats, as Breitbart reports.

Calling them out

The press release, issued last week, underscores the administration’s frustration with what officials believe is a rhetoric-driven increase in attacks targeting Immigration and Customs Enforcement personnel in recent months.

Specifically, the press release referenced recent “carnage in Dallas, Texas,” noting that “a maniac with “ANTI-ICE” ammo gunned down an ICE field office in an attack clearly targeted at ICE personnel.”

The incident, according to the White House, “lays bare the deadly consequences of Democrats’ unhinged crusade against our border enforcement.”

According to the administration, “Democrats have spent years villifying ICE as ‘fascists,’ ‘the Gestapo,’ and ‘slave patrols,” a tactic the White House blames for provoking “a 1000% surge in assaults on agents and a wave of Radical Left terror.”

Underscoring the seriousness of the threat, the press release declared that such statements from Democrats “aren’t just reckless -- they’re a battle cry for violence.”

Governors, lawmakers draw administration ire

Among those drawing particular criticism in the White House communication was Newsom, who has been relentless in his campaign against Trump’s use of ICE to crack down on illegal immigrants in California.

The White House emphasized Newsom’s characterization of agents as being akin to “secret police,” his labeling of their actions as “authoritarian,” and his assertion of a “right to push back” as key examples of his dangerous rhetoric.

Statements made by Walz and Pritzker, respectively, calling ICE agents the “modern-day Gestapo” and describing the United States as on a path to becoming “Nazi Germany” were also highlighted by the White House as examples of reckless escalation against those simply endeavoring to enforce the law.

Also making the administration’s list of the worst offenders when it comes to demonizing ICE agents were Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX), who likened them to members of “slave patrols,” Rep. Delia Ramirez (D-IL), who called ICE a “terror force,” and Rep. Pramila Jayapal, who suggested that agents were “deranged” kidnappers who deserved what she called “inspiring” resistance from those who opposed their mission.

Amping things up even more, according to the White House list, were folks like Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), who ominously implored his supporters to “figure out a way to stop ICE from what they are doing as soon as possible,” and Rep. Kweisi Mfume (D-MD), who suggested that a “street fight” was in order.

Newsom flails as ICE forges ahead

Attempting to go beyond simple rhetorical flourishes, Newsom recently signed a series of laws designed to protect immigrants from the ICE crackdown, taking particular pride in a measure that purported to prohibit federal agents from wearing masks during operations, despite critics blasting the move as symbolic theatrics with little substance.

However, noting that California officials have no authority whatsoever to ban federal agents from covering their faces, Deputy Homeland Security Secretary Tricia McLaughlin put Newsom back in his place by bluntly stating, “We don’t need to abide by this garbage,” a take with which constitutional lawyers resoundingly agree.
