The New York Post reports that several shootings took place in New York City on Friday night.

According to the outlet, the shootings have resulted in at least one death and several other injuries.

"One person was killed and seven others were wounded in several shootings throughout the Big Apple on a violent Friday night," the outlet reports.

It adds, "Four men were shot — one fatally in a shooting in Queens on Friday afternoon that police say may be gang-related."

What happened?

According to New York Police Department (NYPD) Assistant Chief Kevin Williams, the shooting took place on 143rd St. in South Jamaica, Queens, around 3:15 p.m. on Friday, December 22, 2003.

The local outlet Pix 11 reports:

A hail of bullets blasted through the windows of a grey SUV in a South Jamaica residential block. Evidence markers and shell casings dotted 143rd Street near Foch Boulevard which became a major crime scene.

At the time of the shooting, Williams revealed that four individuals were standing around the SUV. It was at this point that the gunman approached these four individuals and opened fire.

Pix 11 quotes an individual who drove by the shooting while driving home from work. Jared Mann told the outlet:

I saw what looked like a body . . . There were more people shot. There was a car filled with bullet holes and other bodies lying around . . . This was tough to see.

The four victims have yet to be identified by name, but reports indicate that their ages are 29, 33, 33, and 39. Outlets are reporting that one of the 33-year-olds died. The others were taken to the hospital, with two of the victims in critical condition and the remaining victim in stable condition.

The suspect is on the loose

After carrying out the shooting, the suspect fled the scene. Police believe that only one person carried out the shooting. The authorities believe that the motivation may have been gang-related.

Williams said, "We believe it may have a gang nexus, but here in 113 precincts we end the year with historic lows in crime."

At the time of this writing, authorities continue to search for the suspect. Investigators have recovered the gun used to carry out the shooting, which was left at the scene of the crime. But, the suspect remains at large.

This was not the only shooting that took place in New York City on Friday night.

The Post reports:

A few hours later, another three males were shot in upper Manhattan, according to police . . . In Brooklyn, a man was shot in the chest near Flatbush Ave, and Farragut Road just before 7 p.m., according to police.
