In a surprising move, former President Barack Obama recently implied that he bears some responsibility for the violence unfolding in Israel.

According to Fox News, Obama's remarks were made this past weekend during an interview with the liberal podcast "Pod Save America."

"Nobody's hands are clean"

"You have to admit that nobody's hands are clean, that all of us are complicit to some degree," the former president was quoted as saying.

"If there's any chance of us being able to act constructively, to do something, it will require an admission of complexity and maintaining what on the surface may seem contradictory ideas," Obama continued.

"What Hamas did was horrific and there's no justification for it. And what is also true is that the occupation and what's happening to Palestinians is unbearable," he insisted.

Obama says people "are dying who have nothing to do with what Hamas did"

"And what is also true is that there is a history of the Jewish people that may be dismissed unless your grandparents, or your great-great-grandparents or your uncle or your aunt tell you stories about the madness of antisemitism, and what is true is that there are people right now that are dying who have nothing to do with what Hamas did," Obama added.

"There are people right now who are dying who have nothing to do with what Hamas did," the former president went on to declare.

ABC News noted that Obama's characterization of Israel's incursion into Gaza as "unbearable" put him at odds with President Joe Biden, who has been largely supportive of the country's right to defend itself.

A similar split played out in the House of Representatives this week when 22 Democrats joined with Republicans in voting to censure Michigan Democratic Rep. Rashida Tlaib over a series of anti-Israel comments.

Meanwhile, Tlaib raised eyebrows last week when she released an ad attacking President Joe Biden over his administration's continued support for Israel.

The video alleged that Israel is committing a genocide and interspersed scenes of Israeli airstrikes with protests in the United States.
