Obama hits the campaign trail for Harris

Ex-President Barack Obama is hitting the campaign trail for Vice President Kamala Harris.

In fact, Breitbart News reports that the two will actually be teaming up in the weeks leading up to the 2024 presidential election.

"Former President Barack Obama will hit the campaign trail with Vice President Kamala Harris in the final month leading up to the election," the outlet reports.

Obviously, the hope is that Obama will be able to get Harris over the finish line. She is certainly struggling to do so on her own.

The details

It was Politico that first reported that Obama is going to be hitting the campaign trail with Harris.

Per the outlet:

The former president will appear Thursday at an event in the Pittsburgh area, the start of what will be part of a swing-state “blitz” through Election Day, said a senior campaign official, granted anonymity to discuss the schedule ahead of the announcement.

In its short report, the left-wing outlet especially attempts to highlight what it portrays as a long and close relationship between Harris and Obama.

The outlet writes:

Kamala Harris was among Barack Obama’s earliest supporters in 2008, knocking on doors and raising money to help propel him to a two-term presidency. Now, he’s returning the favor . . . Harris and Obama have known each other since 2004, when they met on the campaign trail as he ran for Senate and she was still district attorney in San Francisco.

Many are wondering, though, whether this really has anything to do with why Obama is campaigning so hard for Harris.

Whose presidency is it anyway?

As we know, Obama was in office for two terms, and many have argued, persuasively, that Obama's "third term" is currently taking place. So, why not go for a fourth term, right?

There are some who argue that Obama, at the moment, is essentially campaigning for this fourth term, rather than Harris's first. They argue that it is not Harris but Obama who directly or by proxy would call the shots in a Harris administration, just as he has during President Joe Biden's administration.

Others, however, would argue that this is just some right-wing conspiracy theory.

Perhaps we ought not to forget what, in 2020, Obama said:

I said this before. People would ask me, "Knowing what you know now, do you wish you had a third term?" And I used to say, "You know what? If I could make an arrangement where I had a stand-in, a front man or front woman, and they had an earpiece in and I was just in my basement in my sweats looking through the stuff, and then I could sort of deliver the lines, but somebody else was doing all the talking and ceremony, I'd be fine with that.

Has Biden been Obama's "stand-in"? Will Harris take Biden's place? We'll leave this for you to decide.
