Obamas say their daughters are glad to be rid of Secret Service detail

ABC News noted that Barron Trump stopped being eligible for Secret Service protection just over two years ago when he turned 16.

While it is not clear how he felt about that change, former First Lady Michelle Obama has repeatedly said that her own daughters were thrilled to be rid of their security details.

Mrs. Obama recalls sleepover challenges

Entertainment Tonight reported in 2019 that Mrs. Obama told CBS News host Gayle King during an interview, "My kids had armed guards with them at all times."

"Imagine trying to have your first kiss [around] a bunch of men [with guns] and earpieces," the former first lady continued.

"Imagine having Malia and Sasha come to your house for a sleepover. This is the call: 'OK, we're gonna need your social security number, we're gonna need your date of birth," she explained.

"There will be men coming to sweep your house. If you have guns and drugs, just tell them. Because they're going to find them anyway. Don't lie. They're not gonna take 'em, they just need to know where they are," Mrs. Obama recalled.

Former president jokes that his daughters "still have PTSD"

"And by the way, there will be a man with a gun sitting on the front porch all night. Let him come in and use the bathroom, it would just be nice," she said. The former first lady went on to jokingly add, "I mean, I'm surprised my kids have any friends, you know?"

Former President Barack Obama shared similar sentiments while speaking with "Late Late Show" host James Corden in 2021.

Mr. Obama chuckled that his daughters "still have PTSD from guys talking into their wrist microphones and glasses as they're trying to go to a music concert."

Secret Service accused of seeking records from Hunter Biden's gun purchase

While the Obama daughters may be happy to be rid of their Secret Service detail, President Joe Biden's son appears to have had a closer relationship with the law enforcement agency.

As Fox News reported earlier this month, Hunter Biden has pleaded not guilty to multiple criminal charges stemming from his purchases of a handgun in 2018 despite being addicted to drugs.

According to a Politico report from 2020, the Delaware gun store owner that Biden purchased his weapon from said Secret Service agents later attempted to seize records associated with the transaction.

The conservative watchdog group Judicial Watch is part of ongoing litigation over access to Secret Service records surrounding the alleged incident.
