Ocasio-Cortez calls Trump 'a rapist'
U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) just went so far as to expressly call President Donald Trump "a racist."
According to the New York Post, now people are calling for Trump to bring a defamation case against Ocasio-Cortez, as he did against ABC News' George Stephanopoulos.
Trump, at the time of this writing, has not commented on the situation. Here is what Ocasio-Cortez wrote:
Wow who would have thought that electing a rapist would have complicated the release of the Epstein Files?

"Who would have thought that..."
Ocasio-Cortez released her message on Saturday afternoon, July 11, 2025.
It read, "Wow who would have thought that electing a rapist would have complicated the release of the Epstein Files?"
Obviously, the congresswoman is trying to capitalize politically off of the Trump administration's handling of the Jeffrey Epstein Files. The administration stunned Americans last week by suddenly claiming that there is no Epstein List.
To many, this looks like the continuation of the Epstein coverup, and the Trump administration has not really explained why this is not the continuation of the Epstein coverup.
Instead, even President Trump is just trying to get the American people to forget about it. In a recent statement, he even went so far as to claim that "nobody cares about" the Epstein situation, which, judging from the response to his statement, is very far from the truth.
"Sue AOC into bankruptcy."
Now, many are urging President Trump to bring a lawsuit against her for the rape claim.
You may remember this reporting from Axios:
ABC will pay $15 million to President-elect Trump's museum foundation and $1 million in legal fees to settle a suit over comments by anchor George Stephanopoulos . . . Trump sued ABC News and Stephanopoulos in March after the anchor said during an interview that Trump was found civilly liable for raping author E. Jean Carroll.
The New York Post highlights the fact that "Trump, however, was not found liable of rape in the case." Rather, Trump was found liable for sexually assaulting her.
U.S. Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT), following Ocasio-Cortez's message, wrote, "Even under the ridiculously lenient standards of NY Times v. Sullivan, you’ve managed to incur defamation liability. Wow."
What Lee is referring to is the fact that, under Sullivan, it is really, really hard to make a successful defamation claim against a public figure. Yet, Lee, a lawyer himself, believes that were Trump to bring such a claim against Ocasio-Cortez, he would be likely to be successful. We'll have to see whether or not Trump decides to pull the trigger.
