Americans were horrified last week to see police bodycam footage of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's husband, Paul Pelosi, being bludgeoned with a hammer.
The man accused of the crime has since made no secret of his hostility towards the Pelosis and recently expressed regret over not doing more damage.
The Bay Area's KTVU has reported that 42-year-old David Depape called one of its reporters from the San Francisco County Jail last Friday.
DePape, who faces state charges of attempted murder and elder abuse along with a federal charge of kidnapping, was quoted as telling journalist Amber Lee of a threat to "liberty."
The accused insisted that the "people killing it have names and addresses, so I got their names and addresses, so I could pay them a little visit…have a heart-to-heart chat about their bad behavior."
"I want to apologize to everyone," he continued, adding, "I messed up. What I did was really bad. I'm so sorry I didn't get more of them. It's my own fault. No one else is to blame. I should have come better prepared."
KTVU noted that the call came after Lee had earlier reached out to DePape. Their conversation lasted just under five and a half minutes and Lee was unable to ask follow-up questions as DePape indicated that he did not want to jeopardize his case.
However, he did speak of having "spent time exposing government corruption online" but complained that those efforts were shut down.
Footage of Pelosi's attack was made public as the result of a lawsuit filed by the Associated Press along with other news outlets.

What's more, San Francisco County Superior Court Judge Stephen Murphy also ordered the release of a 911 call that Pelosi made prior to being attacked.
The 911 Call from the night of the attack on Paul Pelosi has been released.
The dispatcher is an imbecile. Paul is clearly being held hostage in his home.

Left-wing figures such as California Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom have attempted to blame Pelosi's attack on conservative rhetoric.
However, Fox News host Tucker Carlson has noted on his show how DePape doesn't fit the profile of a typical Republican, with neighbors reporting that he flew a Black Lives Matter flag and gay pride banner outside of his home.
