In an interview on KTTV-LA "News at 6 PM," Representative Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) asserted that former President Donald Trump suffers from a "cognitive disorder."

Pelosi's comments were in response to Trump's recent statements at a campaign rally where he mentioned Nikki Haley and alleged the destruction of information, asserting that troops were offered for security but turned down.

The comments

Pelosi began by addressing what she perceived as a cognitive issue, stating, "First of all, he has a cognitive disorder. It wasn't that he just had a slip of the tongue of using a name one time for another. Anybody can do that. But he was making a case."

She continued, arguing, "But really more dangerous than than getting us mixed up, more dangerous was his charge that we were not accepting his troops. We begged him for hours and hours. Mitch McConnell, Chuck Schumer, Nancy Pelosi, to send the National Guard and he wouldn’t do it. His underlings, the Secretary of the Army and the Acting Secretary of the Defense wouldn’t do it.”

She emphasized that Trump's claim about the destruction of information and the rejection of troops by Haley was not only inaccurate but also indicative of a more significant concern regarding his cognitive abilities.

Highlighting the gravity of the situation, Pelosi pointed out the dangerous nature of Trump's false charge that they were unwilling to accept troops.

Complaining about the past

She described the efforts made to implore Trump to send the National Guard during a critical time, involving key figures such as Mitch McConnell, Chuck Schumer and herself.

Pelosi also implicated Trump's subordinates, specifically the Secretary of the Army and the Acting Secretary of Defense, for their alleged failure to act.

Pelosi went on to underscore the consequences of Trump's actions, referencing the January 6 insurrection at the Capitol.

Trump blame game

She accused Trump of both inciting the insurrection and spreading falsehoods about the National Guard, contributing to the suffering of many, including injuries to over 100 police officers and loss of life.

Expressing her concern for the country, Pelosi asserted that Trump's actions had caused significant problems and argued that he should be held accountable.

She stated, "He is not above the law. He should pay a price for that. And he should never step foot in the White House for any purpose whatsoever."

Pelosi's comments reflect her strong condemnation of Trump's conduct, aligning with broader criticisms from Democrats regarding the events surrounding the Capitol riot and their implications for Trump's accountability.

As the discourse around Trump's role in the insurrection continues, Pelosi's assertion of a cognitive disorder adds a new dimension to the ongoing scrutiny of the former president's behavior and statements.
