Pelosi media event disrupted by pro-Palestinian protesters: Report

Pro-Palestinian protesters continue to cause chaos for high-profile Democrats and the rest of the country.

That was made evident again this week, this time in Rep. Nancy Pelosi's San Francisco, where protesters blocked the entrance to a U.S. Navy ship called the Harvey Milk.

Rumors that the Navy ship was headed to Gaza on a mission spread like wildfire, and were originally reportedly started by CBS News. The rumors ended up drawing some 800 protesters to where the ship docks.

The U.S. Navy was forced to clarify that the ship was not, in fact, headed to Gaza, but to its "first home" in Norfolk, Virginia.

What happened?

The protest grew large and even resulted in over a dozen arrests, according to local authorities.

SFGate noted:

Signs, banners and chants from protesters called for a cease-fire in Gaza, and an end to the U.S.-funded arming of Israel. Paulina Henderson, a San Francisco Police Department spokesperson, confirmed that 14 protesters were arrested on charges of trespassing, and five of them faced an additional charge of resisting arrest.

Protesters then began to chain themselves to the ship's gangway in order to disrupt a media event for local and national politicians, including Pelosi.

Pelosi's event was canceled as a result of the protest, according to reports.

Lara Kiswani of the Arab Resource & Organizing Center (AROC), going off of bad information put out by the mainstream media, said, "It is outrageous and unacceptable that our government continues to fund and supply the Israeli military as it carries out genocide against the people of Gaza."

Navy steps in

Navy spokesperson Brian O’Rourke released a statement clarifying the ship's upcoming voyage, which was not to Gaza.

"It's not transporting anything; it's reporting to its first home," he said, confirming that the rumors regarding its trip to Gaza were "absolutely not true."

Kiswani clearly didn't let false information stop her from spreading propaganda and getting protesters fired up, and took a shot at Pelosi in a statement.

"The clear majority of people in the country–and across the world–are opposed to Israel’s war in Palestine," Kiswani said in AROC’s news release. "Rather than celebrate this vessel’s participation in Israel's violations of human rights and international law, Rep. Pelosi needs to represent her constituents and join the call for an immediate and permanent ceasefire now."
