Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) said that Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) as speaker would be "appalling."

The former House Speaker made the comments on MSNBC's "The ReidOut" on Tuesday as Jordan sought the votes needed to win the role.

The remarks

"These House Republicans were just —they didn’t have any interest in the peaceful transfer of power. They were in denial about the election. And for all of the horror of that day, the violence, the desecration of the Capitol, this temple of democracy in the world, the violation of our Constitution, to have that day on the acceptance of the Electoral College vote," Pelosi said.

"The whole thing, the assault on our democracy, after we went back to the Capitol, took the vote, overwhelmingly, the Republicans voted against accepting the results of the Electoral College. This person that they’re putting forth to be speaker of the House, it’s just appalling," she added.

Not enough votes

"House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, has lost a second-round vote to win the speaker's gavel on Wednesday, calling into doubt whether he can ever be elected," Fox News reported Wednesday.

"Twenty-two Republicans voted against Jordan on this round, after 20 did so on Tuesday during the initial vote. Jordan needs to secure a majority threshold of 217 votes to win," it continued.

Now what?

"The House came to another abrupt standstill, stuck now 15 days since the sudden ouster of Kevin McCarthy without a speaker — a position of power second in line to the presidency," the Associated Press reported.

"Once a formality in Congress, the vote for House speaker has devolved into a bitter GOP showdown for the gavel with no foreseeable end," it stated.

The infighting continues as the Middle East continues to cause problems with the Israel-Hamas war that has led to protests in nations worldwide and in the U.S.

If Jordan is unable to win, Republicans may be forced to strike a deal with Democrats in what could be a win for the left.

The future is uncertain for the House's leadership, but Pelosi's "appalling" comment says more about her personal attacks against Republicans than the reality of the situation.
