Pentagon undergoes major shakeup under Trump admin
The administration of President Donald Trump is really shaking up the Pentagon.
Breitbart News reports that there has been a number of high-profile Pentagon firings over the past several days.
This would include the firing of Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Gen. Charles Q. Brown Jr.
This, of course, was all expected, as Trump campaigned upon the promise to rid the federal government - including the Pentagon - of individuals who, in his view, are hurting America's interests.
A big one
Brown's firing was the most high-profile of the bunch.
Just the News reports:
The termination comes after weeks of change at the Pentagon as the new Trump administration takes over. Brown, who was also an Air Force general, was nominated by former President Joe Biden and confirmed to the position in 2023. Trump, who nominated Brown to be the Air Force’s chief of staff in 2020, praised the outgoing chairman as an "outstanding leader," and thanked him for his devotion to the country.
Trump, indeed, referred to Brown as "a fine gentleman and an outstanding leader." The president even wished him "a great future." This was a bit surprising considering the fact that Brown has found himself at the center of some controversy.
Breitbart News provides the background, writing:
Brown famously filmed a video amid the George Floyd riots sweeping the nation, in which he called Floyd’s death “tragic,” and said that he was “full of emotion.” As chief of staff of the Air Force, he also pushed to get more African Americans and other minorities as officers by telling commanders to recruit more for the “applicant pool” — so as to get around explicitly calling for racial quotas.
Since then, Trump has announced a replacement for Brown, namely, Air Force Lt. Gen. Dan "Razin" Caine. Trump said, "General Caine is an accomplished pilot, national security expert, successful entrepreneur, and a ‘warfighter’ with significant interagency and special operations experience."
Clearing house
Trump has also fired some four-star military leaders. This was carried out by Pete Hegseth, who is the Secretary of the Department of Defense.
Hegseth terminated Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Lisa Franchetti and Air Force Vice Chief of Staff Gen. James Slife.
This came immediately after Trump fired Brown.
Hegseth has released a brief statement on the matter.
He said, "Under President Trump, we are putting in place new leadership that will focus our military on its core mission of deterring, fighting, and winning war."
