President-elect Donald Trump made headlines last month when he nominated Florida Republican Sen. Marco Rubio to serve as secretary of State.

While it remains unclear who Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis will select as Rubio’s replacement, a recent poll suggests that most conservatives have a clear preference.

Fifty-nine percent of Republicans favor Lara Trump

According to the Daily Mail, it commissioned a survey by J.L. Partners which found that 59% of Republicans want to see Lara Trump to fill Rubio's seat.

Carried among 1006 registered voters, the survey noted that 36% of Republicans are "strongly" in favor of appointing Mrs. Trump while another 23% are "somewhat" in favor of doing so.

When the question was put to voters as a whole, 33% want the president-elect's daughter-in-law to serve on Capitol Hill. That includes 19% who "strongly" support the idea as well as 14% who "somewhat" back it.

James Johnson is the cofounder of J.L. Partners, and he told the Daily Mail that those numbers should serve as a guide to DeSantis when making his selection.

Sen. Rick Scott endorses Lara Trump

"Republican voters are with the Trumps and they believe Lara Trump should be the Senate replacement in Florida," Johnson was quoted as saying.

"Looking at these data, there is little to no chance of a backlash amongst the voters," the pollster went on to say of picking Mrs. Trump.

The Daily Mail pointed out that Lara Trump also received an endorsement from Florida Republican Sen. Rick Scott two weeks ago.

"We need more Republicans in Washington who actually represent the Republican Party back home and will be steadfast in their commitment to fulfill the mandate from this election - to Make America Great Again," Scott wrote in a social media post before adding, "[Lara Trump] is that person."

Mrs. Trump would "seriously consider" serving in the Senate

For her part, Mrs. Trump said during an interview with Fox Business host Maria Bartiromo last month that she would "seriously consider" serving in the Senate.

Meanwhile, South Carolina Republican Sen. Lindsay Graham told Fox News host Sean Hannity that Republicans "could not do better … than Lara Trump."

Mrs. Trump currently serves as co-chair of the Republican National Committee (RNC) alongside former North Carolina Republican Party chair Michael Whatley.
