President Donald Trump and former DOGE head Elon Musk have been on unfavorable terms ever since a feud erupted between the two earlier this year.

However, the results of a new poll suggest that Trump has bested his former ally when it comes to public opinion.

Survey puts Trump eight points ahead of Musk in favorability

As the Daily Mail reported, a survey carried out by Gallup last month shows Musk to be "the most hated figure in America," with just 33% of respondents expressing a favorable view of him.

The survey, which was conducted between July 7 and July 21 among 1,002 adults, also showed the SpaceX founder to be seen unfavorably by 61% of Americans.

That represents a significant change from the results of an earlier poll carried out between January 21 and January 27, which had him well regarded by 43%.

In contrast, Trump has a 41% favorability number while his unfavourability figure stood at 57%. The president has also seen a less steep decline than Musk, dropping by seven percentage points instead of 10.

Meanwhile, the survey found that America's most popular public figure is Pope Leo, who is seen favorably by 57% of adults.

Trump slams Musk's idea of creating a new political party

The Hill reported in July that the president lashed out at Musk in a post on his Truth Social platform over suggestions that he might start a new political party.

"I am saddened to watch Elon Musk go completely ‘off the rails,’ essentially becoming a TRAIN WRECK over the past five weeks," Trump wrote.

"He even wants to start a Third Political Party, despite the fact that they have never succeeded in the United States – The System seems not designed for them," the president continued.

"The one thing Third Parties are good for is the creation of Complete and Total DISRUPTION [and] CHAOS, and we have enough of that with the Radical Left Democrats, who have lost their confidence and their minds!" he insisted.

Trump: "I think it’s ridiculous to start a third party"

The Hill noted how just before making the post, Trump voiced similar thoughts when he spoke with journalists near Air Force One.

"I think it’s ridiculous to start a third party," the president stated before later adding, "So he can have fun with it, but I think it’s ridiculous."
