Porsha Williams, known for her role in "Real Housewives of Atlanta," has initiated divorce proceedings against Simon Guobadia, signaling the end of their marriage just over a year after their wedding.

Court documents obtained by People confirmed that Williams filed for divorce from Guobadia in Atlanta on Thursday.

The story

Speculation regarding Guobadia's citizenship status has surfaced online, but a source close to the couple clarified to People that the divorce is unrelated to recent allegations surrounding Simon's background.

Details regarding the reasons for their split remain undisclosed, with the insider describing it as an "ongoing matter."

The couple tied the knot in November 2022 in a ceremony blending Nigerian tradition with an American celebration held in Atlanta.

Their engagement

Their engagement, announced in May 2021 after only a month of dating, was met with enthusiasm from Williams, who shared a selfie with Guobadia captioned with, "Yes, we are crazy in love."

Guobadia echoed her sentiment, expressing that they fulfilled each other's criteria and more.

Williams, 42, and Guobadia, 59, share a four-year-old daughter named Pilar from Williams' previous relationship.

The series

Recently, Williams made headlines by confirming her return to "The Real Housewives of Atlanta" for its upcoming sixteenth season after a two-year hiatus.

She inked an overall scripted deal with NBCUniversal, positioning herself for potential projects across the company's broadcast and streaming platforms.

Grateful for the opportunity presented by NBCUniversal, Williams expressed her excitement, stating, “I’m incredibly thankful for the vision and faith NBCUniversal has put in me to be a larger part of their family. I’m looking forward to being back on The Real Housewives of Atlanta, and showing the world my new world!"

Williams first joined the cast of the series during its fifth season and later appeared alongside Guobadia in the reality spinoff "Porsha's Family Matters" in 2021. Her most recent appearance was in the third season of "The Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip," which aired last year.

The divorce filing marks a significant turn in Williams and Guobadia's relationship, raising questions among fans and observers about the factors leading to their separation as the next season of the show lies ahead.
