U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL), during an interview over the weekend, refused to say whether he would accept the results of the 2024 presidential election.

Rubio, one of the individuals believed to be on former President Donald Trump's running mate shortlist, did so, according to the New York Post, on NBC's Meet the Press Sunday.

The interview was conducted by Kristen Welker. She is the one who asked Rubio whether, right now - several months before the election - he would commit to accepting the results.

This is a question that left-wing outlets have been putting to Republicans in recent months. The purpose of the question is clearly to make anyone who answers the question "no" or who refuses to answer the question look like a radical. Read on to see how Rubio dealt with it.

"No!"

First off, Rubio made it absolutely clear that he will not, at this moment, unconditionally commit to accepting the results of the upcoming election.

"No matter what happens? No! If it’s an unfair election, I think it’s going to be contested by each side," Rubio said.

Welker was not satisfied with this response, so she attempted to ask Rubio the question again, albeit in slightly different terms. Rubio, however, was not having any of it.

"I think you’re asking the wrong person. The Democrats are the ones that have opposed every Republican victory since 2000. Every single one," Rubio said.

Welker was clearly prepared for these responses from Rubio, as she continued to press him on the subject.

Rubio exposes the mainstream media

Fox News reports:

Welker went on to play a clip of Rubio certifying the 2020 election before questioning the senator on the public’s ability to confide in this year’s election results. "Democracy is held together by people with confidence in the election, and their willingness to abide by its results," Rubio said in the 2021 clip.

Welker followed the clip up by asking Rubio, "By your own definition, are Donald Trump’s claims undermining Americans’ confidence in democracy?"

At this point, it became clear that NBC and Welker essentially were trying to set Rubio up for a "gotcha" moment. But, it didn't work. Rubio went on to get NBC News.

"What undermines elections is when NBC News, and every major news outlet in the country in 2020, censored the Biden laptop story, which turned out to be true…You couldn’t even talk about it on social media, they would deplatform you."

This is one of several heated moments from the interview. Rubio certainly proved himself.

" A free people [claim] their rights, as derived from the laws of nature."
