President Donald Trump doubles existing tariffs on China

Donald Trump has shown that America is NOT going to be pushed around anymore.

We're not going to be pushed around by Mexico and Canada regarding our borders. We're not going to be bullied by Ukraine when it comes to giving them foreign aid. And we're not going to be forced by China into accepting trade deals that don't benefit America.

To prove his point, President Donald Trump has announced that he's going to double existing tariffs on China starting on March 4, 2025. He's also planning to impose tariffs on Mexico and Canada very soon.

Trump cited drugs pouring in from Mexico, China, and Canada "at very high and unacceptable levels" as the reason for his decision. As a result, Trump's going to increase tariffs on Canada and Mexico as well.

Trump takes action

"A large percentage of these Drugs, much of them in the form of Fentanyl, are made in, and supplied by, China," Trump said, adding that the amount of Americans who have died of drug use in recent years makes this a very important issue.

"We cannot allow this scourge to continue to harm the USA, and therefore, until it stops, or is seriously limited, the proposed TARIFFS scheduled to go into effect on MARCH FOURTH will, indeed, go into effect, as scheduled. China will likewise be charged an additional 10% Tariff on that date. The April Second Reciprocal Tariff date will remain in full force and effect. Thank you for your attention to this matter. GOD BLESS AMERICA!" Trump continued.

Donald first made the announcement on his social media network, Truth Social.

Trump had already enacted a 10% tariff on China as a result of their country producing the chemicals used in fentanyl. His post would suggest that he's about to double the tax.

Drugs becoming a serious problem

Fentanyl pouring over our southern border and into the United States has proven to be a very serious problem that doesn't look as though it's going to go away anytime soon.

According to the Daily Caller:

American officials have seized approximately 5,600 pounds of fentanyl in the 2025 fiscal year so far, according to statistics released by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP). CBP seized around 21,900 pounds of fentanyl in the 2024 fiscal year and an estimated 27,000 pounds of the lethal drug in the 2023 fiscal year. One kilogram of the drug could kill up to 500,000 people, according to the Drug Enforcement Agency.

If anything is going to convince China to clean up their act, it's hitting them where it's going to hurt the most:

Their pocketbook.

Do you think these tariffs are a good idea or will just result in higher costs for American consumers?
