Previously ousted Republicans put back on committees

According to Breitbart, two high-profile Republicans will be put on committees despite having been stripped of their assignments last year by Democrats.

The website stated that Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene and Arizona Rep. Paul Gosar each received recommendations from the House Republican Steering Committee.

Greene and Gosar were kicked off committees in 2021

Greene has been selected to serve on the House Homeland Security Committee while Gosar was tapped for the House Natural Resources committee. Meanwhile, both lawmakers have been recommended for spots on the House Oversight Committee.

Fox News reported in February of 2021 that Greene was being removed from her seats on the House Education and Labor Committee as well as the House Budget Committee after Democrats accused her of promoting violent conspiracy theories.

"Serving on a committee isn’t a right. It’s a privilege," Massachusetts Democratic Rep. Jim McGovern said at the time.

"The party of Lincoln is becoming the party of violent conspiracy theories," he continued, adding, "And apparently, the leaders of the Republican Party in the House today aren’t going to do a damn thing about it."

"People look up to us"

The network also reported that Gosar lost his committee assignments less than a year later after tweeting out an animated cartoon of him killing New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

"People look up to us. They take our lead. So, when a member posts a video of himself killing a colleague, that's obviously going to have an impact on the way people approach their politics," Pennsylvania Democratic Rep. Mary Gay Scanlon.

The Hill noted that restoring Greene and Gosar to their committee assignments fits with comments that newly elected House Speaker Kevin McCarthy made during a Capitol Hill press conference last Thursday.

"They’ll have committees," McCarthy declared. "They may have other committee assignments. They may have better committee assignments."

Three Democrats being stripped of assignments

In addition to putting Greene and Gosar back on committees, Republicans are also removing several prominent Democrats.

McCarthy confirmed in an interview with Fox News last week that California Reps. Adam Schiff and Eric Swalwell would both be getting the boot, as would Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar.

"Swalwell can’t get a security clearance in the private sector. I’m not going to give him a government security clearance," McCarthy said, adding, "Schiff has lied too many times to the American public. He should not be on Intel."

McCarthy explained that Omar would be removed over her long history of attacking Israel and making remarks that some regard as being antisemitic.
