In the wake of King Charles III announcing to the world that he had been diagnosed with cancer, Prince Harry traveled across the world to meet up with his father.

Many believed that given the situation, Prince Harry might also meet with his brother, Prince Williams, to reconcile as the royal family prepares to deal with the cancer situation.

According to the Associated Press, the two brothers did not meet up and reconcile.

Prince Harry was reportedly only in-country for less than 24 hours, and during that time, he spent roughly an hour at Clarence House, the king’s London home.

Drifted apart

The relationship between the two brothers has been distant, at best, for some time.

The AP noted that Prince William, who is next in line for the throne, was, according to Prince Harry, was given preferential treatment. That includes his marriage to Kate Middleton and how the royal family treated them compared to Prince Harry's marriage to Meghan Markle.

The outlet noted:

While William, the heir, was destined from birth to be king, Harry, who is fifth in line to the throne behind his brother and William’s three children, has often appeared to struggle with the more ambiguous role of “spare.”

"Spare" was the title chosen by Prince Harry for his memoir, which rocked the royal family boat after he "alleged that the British media treated him and his wife, Meghan — also known as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex — as villains compared with virtuous William and Kate, and accused palace officials of lying to protect his elder brother."

The situation between Prince Harry and the royal family became especially strained after a 2021 Oprah Winfrey interview in which Harry and Markle claimed that the royal family downplayed her mental health struggles.

They also claimed that "racist" remarks were made about Markle, given her bi-racial ethnicity.

Formal relationship

Prince Harry and Prince William have only been spotted together a handful of times in the past decade or so.

The AP noted:

They were seen temporarily putting their fraught relationship aside to attend the funeral of their grandfather Prince Philip at Windsor Castle in 2021. The pair did not walk side-by-side behind Philip’s coffin, but were pictured chatting and walking together after the service.

They were also together after the death of Queen Elizabeth, though they walked separately from each other during the ceremonies that followed.

Only time will tell if the two brothers ever truly reconcile.
