Tragedy struck in California over the weekend after six people were confirmed dead after a private jet crashed.

According to Fox News, the Cessna C550 business jet went down in Murrieta, California on Saturday, with all six passengers on board perishing. The plane crashed near the French Valley Airport in the early morning hours.

The plane was on its way to California after departing Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The Riverside County Sheriff's Department confirmed that the six passengers had died in the crash.

Secondary emergency

Given the impact and subsequent fire caused by the plane crash, the field in which it landed caught on fire, sparking fire calls.

"Cessna aircraft down in a field, fully involved in fire," CAL FIRE reported via social media. "The fire burned approximately one acre of vegetation, was contained at 5:35 a.m. and the incident has been turned over to RSO and the FAA."

Video of the aftermath of the horrific crash was uploaded to social media over the weekend.

Authorities have not yet determined the cause of the plane crash, though the NTSB is investigating.

The victims of the crash were identified on Sunday, according to CBS News.

They included, "Abigail Tellez-Vargas, 33, of Murrieta; Riese Lenders, 25, of Rancho Palos Verdes; Manuel Vargas-Regalado, 32, of Temecula; Lindsey Gleiche, 31, of Huntington Beach; Alma Razick, 51, of Temecula; and Ibrahim Razick, 46, of Temecula," according to the outlet.
