Progressive groups ignore Emhoff affair
Progressive women's groups are ignoring the fact that Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff cheated on his first wife.
Fox News reports:
Fox News Digital sent an inquiry for comment to EMILYs List, the League of Women Voters, the Progressive Women's Alliance of West Michigan, the National Organization for Women, the National Women's Political Caucus, the Feminist Majority Foundation, the Institute for Women's Policy Research, the Women's Liberation Front and the International Center for Research on Women. None of the groups returned a request for comment about whether Emhoff should face heightened scrutiny as potentially the next first gentleman by press deadline.
This is surprising considering that it is these groups who are supposed to stand up for women.
Apparently, though, an exception is being made for Vice President Kamala Harris's husband.
Background
In case you missed it, it was a little over a week ago that the Daily Mail published a report detailing Emhoff's affair.
The outlet reported:
Kamala Harris’s husband’s first marriage ended after he got his children’s nanny pregnant, DailyMail.com can exclusively reveal. Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff cheated on his first wife Kerstin with the blonde nanny, who also taught at their children’s pricey private school.
We know this reporting is accurate because, not long after the Daily Mail published its report, Emhoff actually confessed.
"During my first marriage, Kerstin and I went through some tough times on account of my actions. I took responsibility, and in the years since, we worked through things as a family and have come out stronger on the other side," he said.
This may indeed be the case, but the affair has certainly not helped to strengthen Harris's presidential campaign.
Harris was "humiliated"
A few days ago, it was reported that Harris was "humiliated" by the Emhoff affair.
The Daily Mail wrote:
Now, we can reveal, life at Number One Observatory Circle – the vice president's official residence – has been frosty to say the least. "You know what they say, 'once a cheater always a cheater,'" remarked one high-placed source. "Of course, Kamala is worrying, not just that he might do it again, but could he have already done it again?"
The outlet goes on to report that Harris and her campaign have attempted to "shift the spotlight" away from the affair by announcing her running mate.
Harris, of course, picked Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D).
Walz has certainly been a distraction for Harris, but not a good one. Since his selection, he has become the target of significant criticism for his record and for the numerous scandals that he has been involved in over the years.
