Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy called on Republican National Committee chairwoman Ronna McDaniel to be removed from her role.

Ramaswamy repeated his call for McDaniel's departure during an interview on "Breitbart News Saturday" just days after making the statement during Wednesday's third GOP primary debate.

The remarks

“Here are the facts — and I’m not a politician, I’m a businessman — looking at this as a CEO or an investor: 2017, Ronna McDaniel takes over; 2018, loss; 2020, loss; 2022, no red wave; 2023, trouncing relative to what should have happened across this country,” Ramaswamy said, asking, “Where’s the accountability?”

“Obviously, this woman has to go, and if there’s no accountability in our party, then we have no standing to preach to the rest of the country about accountability and government or meritocracy elsewhere,” he added.

The debate

"Since Ronna McDaniel took over as chairwoman of the RNC in 2017, we have lost in 2018, 2020, 2022, no red wave that never came. We got trounced last night in 2023. And I think that we have to have accountability in our party," Ramaswamy stated during the opening of the GOP debate.

"For that matter, Ronna, if you want to come on stage tonight, you want to look the GOP voters in the eye and tell them you resign, I will turn over [and] yield my time to you," he added.

McDaniel's response

"McDaniel said Ramaswamy 'needs a headline' during a Thursday appearance on the network after the businessman called for her resignation and blasted NBC News host Kristen Welker during his opening statement," the Daily Caller reported.

"McDaniel fended off a challenge for the chairmanship of the RNC by lawyer Harmeet Dhillon in January, winning 111 votes out of the 168 for the position despite Republicans underperforming expectations of a 'red wave' nationally in the 2022 midterm elections," it later stated.

The move by Ramaswamy is unlikely to earn him any favor among the Republican establishment but was accepted with excitement by many viewers.

Conservatives are rightfully upset over ongoing party losses and are looking for new leadership to help change the situation.

Whether McDaniels will leave anytime soon is unclear but the calls for her to do so were very clear by Ramaswamy before a national audience.
