Rand Paul suggests that Jill Biden could be looked at by Capitol Hill investigators
GOP lawmakers are investigating former President Joe Biden use of an autopen to sign official documents, including a number of pardons which were issued at the end of his term.
Kentucky Republican Sen. Rand Paul recently suggested that the investigation could result in former First Lady Jill Biden being looked at.
Paul: "Hundreds and hundreds of people were pardoned in a day"
According to The Hill, Paul's remarks came when he sat down for an interview late last week with radio host John Catsimatidis.
"It's unclear whether President Biden is mentally cognizant enough of the situation to know who he pardoned," the senator told Catsimatidis. "Hundreds and hundreds of people were pardoned in a day by a mechanical signature from a machine."
Paul zeroed in on the pardon which was granted to Dr. Anthony Fauci, who served as director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.
"Even though Anthony Fauci has been pardoned, there is some question whether it’s a legitimate pardon. His pardon wasn’t signed by President Biden," the senator stressed.
Mrs. Biden's chief of staff played a major role at the White House
"We do know there’s been testimony from the people running the machine that they never talked to the president, that they talked to an assistant that works for the president’s wife," Paul pointed out.
The senator was referring to Anthony Bernal, who was subpoenaed by the House Oversight Committee earlier this month after he refused to attend a scheduled interview regarding the former president's mental state.
Fox News reported that Bernal subsequently invoked his Fifth Amendment right against self incrimination when questioned by House staffers on July 16.
"That's something to a lot of Americans to know that that person was granting power of pardons and could have taken the country to war and was never elected," Paul stressed.
"So I think the way, the best way to sort this out is you have to go to court. And I think the easiest way to get this into court is they should indict Anthony Fauci for lying to Congress, and he will make a defense that he’s been pardoned," the Kentucky lawmaker added.
GOP congressman: Former first lady "certainly could" be called to testify
Meanwhile, Florida Republican Rep. Fine told Fox News on Friday that Mrs. Biden "certainly could" be called to testify on Capitol Hill.
"Look, I said when I was for office, I thought she engaged in elder abuse," Fine said of the former first lady. "I mean, Joe Biden was clearly unfit to be president and her pushing him out was just a terrible, terrible thing."
