Fox News reported that HGTV star Ty Pennington was hurriedly placed in intensive care late last week after he experienced difficulty breathing.

Pennington, who is known for his work on "Trading Places" and "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition," put up an Instagram post in which he described going "from the red carpet, to the ICU."

Large abscess obstructed Pennington's throat

"Turns out, that sore throat I’ve had for the last month was actually an abscess which had grown so large it was closing off my airway," the star recalled.

"Next thing I know, I was intubated and flown to the ICU in Denver," the 58-year-old reality television star went on to state.

Fox News noted how Pennington's medical ordeal came just two days after he was seen in Los Angeles attending the premier of "Barbie" starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling.

Star thanks hospital staff

Meanwhile, the Daily Mail revealed that Pennington was subsequently released from hospital and had words of praise for his medical care providers.

"Thank you so much to all the amazing staff at St. Anthony’s in Lakewood, CO & Summit Health in Frisco for taking such great care of me," the TV host was quoted as saying in an Instagram post.

Pennington went on to warn that his ordeal served as a "great reminder to LISTEN to your body when it’s telling you something."

The Daily Mail explained that Pennington's ailment is known as a peritonsillar abscess, something the Cleveland Clinic's website describes as "a pus-filled pocket that forms near one of your tonsils."

"It’s usually a complication of tonsillitis and is often caused by the same bacteria that cause strep throat," the website notes.

Fans pray for Pennington's recovery

Symptoms are said to "include severe pain, swollen tonsils and swollen lymph nodes" while the condition can be treated via "needle aspiration and tonsillectomy."

News of Pennington's health scare drew concern from fans, some of whom stated on social media that they were praying for his recovery.
