Rep. James Clyburn blames Trump for shooting at South Carolina church in 2015

Democrats will say and do anything they can, even if it means telling outright lies, to discredit former President Donald Trump as his momentum builds in the 2024 presidential race.

That was evidenced once again by Rep. James Clyburn (D-SC), who placed blame on Trump for a 2015 shooting that left nine Black churchgoers dead at Mother Emanuel AME Church in Charleston, South Carolina.

The shooting was carried out by a white supremacist who has since been sentenced to death in prison, The Daily Wire reported.

Clyburn made the asinine remark, unsurprisingly, during a recent interview on CNN’s "State of the Union."

What did he say?

Clyburn just couldn't resist telling the Democrats' tired lies while discussing an upcoming visit to the state by President Joe Biden, who's losing in most polls to Trump.

CNN host Jake Tapper teed up the question, pondering why Trump could be tied to the attack since he had barely just launched his presidential campaign when it happened. That didn't stop Clyburn from lying through his teeth.

"Is it fair to tie in any way what happened at the Emanuel AME Church to Donald Trump?" Tapper asked

Clyburn replied, "I think it is very clear that Donald Trump’s utterances way back before Charlottesville or at the time of Charlottesville ties him to what happened at Mother Emanuel."

He added, "The fact of the matter is, that young man went into that church’s basement, joined with those worshipers in Bible study, and murdered them."

"And he said at the time that he was attempting to create a race war. But the people of Charleston, South Carolina, the families of the affected victims all came together to get beyond hate and reach out to help continue this pursuit of a more perfect union," the South Carolina Democrat continued.

Social media reacts

Clyburn's ridiculous lies, which have sadly become talking points for President Biden and others, were quickly shot down by social media users, with many noting how pathetic it is at this point.

"This is all they have … they are so pathetic," one X user wrote.

Another X user wrote, "He knows. It's purposeful. Tie everything to Trump. Dems depend on low info voters."

It's truly disgusting to watch these people continue to lie. Clearly, that is all they have at this point.
