President Donald Trump's Department of Homeland Security (DHS) caused quite a stir within the ranks of the Democratic Party after a Dem lawmaker's aide was arrested.

According to The Hill, one of Rep. Jerry Nadler's (D-NY) staffers was briefly detained last week after DHS agents entered the congressman's Manhattan office in a search for protesters.

The DHS agents accused Nadler of "harboring rioters" before entering the office, ultimately ending up in a scuffle with the staffer who was detained.

Nadler and his fellow Democrats slammed the Trump administration over the ordeal, calling it "outrageous" while accusing DHS agents of "lying" regarding how the situation unfolded.

What's going on?

Nadler and his fellow Democrats claim President Trump has abused his executive powers in such incidents, ironically echoing the same legitimate concerns Republicans had during the Biden administration.

The Hill noted:

On Monday, Nadler called the administration’s conduct “outrageous,” and accused DHS of “lying” about the details surrounding the episode. He’s calling for an investigation into what he considers an abuse of executive power to target political adversaries.

Not surprisingly, Nadler made the media rounds with his dramatic description of what happened during the incident that resulted in the arrest of one of his staffers.

"They barged in. And in barging in one of the offices, a very big, heavyset fellow pushed my aide — a very petite young woman — and they then said that she pushed back and they shackled her and took her downstairs," Nadler told CNN earlier this week.

Now, the congressman is calling for an investigation into the incident.

Social media reacts

Users across social media had plenty to say about the situation.

"Ummmm a Congressional office is not a private office. It is owned by the tax payer not Mr. Nadler.. wow.." one X user pointed out.

Another X user wrote, "These agents are protecting American citizens from criminal illegals and fugitives. not raiding yoga studios. Nadler and Ed care more about protecting their political bubble than protecting this country."

It'll be interesting to see what comes of the situation.
