Rep. Lauren Boebert says Pentagon views her as 'security threat'

President Joe Biden's Pentagon was recently accused of monitoring at least one conservative Republican lawmaker as a possible “security threat,” according to Newsweek.

Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) took to Twitter Saturday to tell her followers that she is being closely watched by the Defense Department due to her opposition to Biden's left-leaning military policies.

Boebert speaks out

“Apparently the Pentagon thinks I'm a security threat because I oppose Biden's plans for a woke military,” Boebert wrote on the social media platform.

The firebrand legislator continued, “Call me whatever you want, but I'm not backing down today or ever.”

Business Insider suggested that Boebert's suspicions about Pentagon monitoring may have come from a post found on TRMLX, a website operated by anonymous contributors and editors.

It referenced a claim that the Pentagon produced a report in early 2021 shining a spotlight on social media posts from several high-profile conservatives – including the Colorado Republican, retired Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn, and Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) – as representing possible “security threats.”

Doubling down

The Saturday tweet was not the only time Boebert leveled the claim about the Pentagon, raising the issue publicly again over the weekend at Turning Point USA's Young Women's Leadership Summit, as Newsweek noted.

“I just read in the news today that I'm on the Pentagon's terrorist list because of a tweet!” Boebert told the assembled crowd, according to video footage from the event.

The clip of Boebert's comments was posted on Twitter by left-wing commentator Ron Filipkowski – a frequent critic of the legislator.

Newsweek reportedly sought further comment from Boebert on the issue, but none was forthcoming at the time of publication.

Problematic implications alleged

Though the report referenced by the controversial TRMLX website is admittedly a few years old, the issues it raises are worth further exploration.

A contributor to the site pointed out that the document's “bias against conservatives is alarming, while its screenshots of sitting representatives potentially runs afoul of the Pentagon's role in relation to Congress. It also begs the question of whether this targeting of elected officials is still taking place.”

“The Pentagon has tried to label itself as apolitical, yet its actions over the last few years have been anything but. This is just another example of the Pentagon, under the Biden administration, operating unchecked in its bias and targeting of those who are deemed and enemy to the regime,” the site concluded.

The Pentagon, for its part, told Newsweek, “We are aware of the tweet but are unable to determine the veracity of the claims at this time,” and unfortunately, given past administration practices and nonexistent commitment to transparency, the likelihood that any further answers will emerge in this matter seems slim, at best.
