U.S. Rep. Ted Lieu (D-CA) has been accused of violating campaign finance laws.

This is according to a new, exclusive report from Red State.

The outlet followed the money trail and claims that it has found evidence that Lieu has been sending campaign money to places that it should not go - including to his wife's school board campaign.

What's more, is that Red State claims that Lieu has been making these kinds of improper campaign expenditures for a long time.

The latest allegation

According to Red State, Lieu has been taking campaign funds that he has received from donors and has been giving some of these funds to his wife, Betty Lieu, to help finance her campaign for the school board.

The outlet says that it has learned this from Federal Election Commission (FEC) records. It supports all of this reporting with screenshots of the FEC filings showing the money trail from Lieu's campaign to his wife.

"A review of FEC records shows that Ted Lieu for Congress has now donated $25,000 to Betty Lieu's school board campaign and $17,000 to the Torrance Education Foundation," Red State reports.

It continues, "In addition, Ted had his political allies funnel contributions to Betty Lieu from their campaign accounts. The amounts of these contributions aren't insignificant."

Red State goes on to detail the money transfers.

Nearly $25,000 so far

The outlet reports that, "Out of the $140,329 in monetary contributions Betty Lieu for School Board received between 2018 and 2023, 33 percent is from the campaign accounts of Ted Lieu and a handful of California politicians."

From Lieu alone, this adds up to a little under $23,000. Then, this year, Red State found that Lieu gave his wife another $2,000 as of January 2024. It's important to note that the rest of this year's filings have yet to be made.

This, nonetheless, brings the total amount of money that Lieu has taken from his campaign and has given to his wife's campaign to $24,913.

The Red State goes on to take the reader through the campaign finance rules, explaining why it is that this is likely a violation of these rules. You, however, do not have to be an expert in these rules to know that something does not seem right here.

Red State further reports that this is nothing unusual for Lieu. The outlet claims that the congressman has been doing this sort of thing for numerous years now, and it has published several other reports proving this.
