Vice Adm. Yvette M. Davids made headlines last year when she became the first woman to lead the United States Naval Academy.

However, Davids drew attention once again this past week after being kicked out of that role by Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth.

Davids to be replaced by Marine Corps Lt. Gen. Michael J. Borgschulte

According to Axiso, Davids' removal as head of the U.S. Naval Academy was announced in a press release which was put out by Hegseth's office late last week.

It explained that she had received an "assignment as deputy chief of Naval Operations for Operations, Plans, Strategy, and Warfighting Development, N3/N5/N7, Office of the Chief of Naval Operations, Pentagon, Washington, D.C."

The press release also explained that Marine Corps Lt. Gen. Michael J. Borgschulte is being nominated to take Davids' place.

Axios noted how should he be confirmed, Borgschulte will become the first Marine to ever be in charge of the U.S. Naval Academy.

Navy secretary says Borgschulte brings "a wealth of operational experience"

U.S. Naval Institute News reported that Navy Secretary John Phelan released a statement in which he voiced words of congratulations for both Davids and Borgschulte.

"A decorated combat leader and proud graduate of the Naval Academy Class of 1991, Lt. Gen. Borgschulte brings a wealth of operational experience and strategic insight," Phelan was quoted as saying.

"If confirmed, he will be the first Marine to hold this prestigious post, a milestone that reflects the strength of our naval integration and the shared ethos of the Navy-Marine Corps team," he continued.

"Vice Adm. Davids has commanded at every level and has led with distinction in some of the most complex security environments of our time," Phelan stressed.

"Her strategic vision and operational depth will be an exceptional asset to the Navy and the Department of Defense," the Navy secretary went on to add.

Borgschulte is "a career aviator" who was deployed to both Iraq and Afghanistan

U.S. Naval Institute News observed that Davids is married to retired Rear Adm. Keith Davids, a former Navy SEAL who headed Naval Special Warfare Command from 2022 to 2024.

Meanwhile, the publication described Borgschulte as "a career aviator" who graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1991.

Borgschulte was deployed to both Iraq and Afghanistan and was in charge of 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing before becoming deputy commander for manpower and reserve affairs.
