Report: George Clooney 'furious' at Barack Obama in wake of Dems' electoral disaster
There has been no shortage of finger-pointing on the left in the aftermath of Kamala Harris' electoral loss to Donald Trump, but it now appears that the blame game has now ensnared two of the Democratic Party's most prominent names.
As Breitbart reports, a Hollywood source recently revealed to Radar Online that film star George Clooney is “furious” at former President Barack Obama for using him as a “patsy” to urge Joe Biden's withdrawal from the 2024 race, only to abandon him once the backlash began.
Clooney's role in Biden exit
It was back in July that Clooney, a longtime financial backer and outspoken supporter of Democratic Party candidates, made his thoughts known about the state of the presidential contest.
In the wake of Biden's catastrophic June debate performance against Trump, Clooney penned an op-ed for the New York Times suggesting that he had doubts about the president's ability to prevail in November, as NBC News noted at the time.
As further support for his position, Clooney made reference to a star-studded California fundraiser for Biden in which he had personally participated, noting that the commander in chief's faculties were clearly diminished.
“It's devastating to say it, but the Joe Biden I was with three weeks ago at the fund-raiser was not the Joe 'big F-ing deal' Biden of 2010,” Clooney wrote. “He wasn't even the Joe Biden of 2020. He was the same man we all witnessed at the debate.”
Clooney continued his call to action, stating, “We are not going to win in November with this president. On top of that, we won't win the House, and we're going to lose the Senate” and calling for Biden to step aside in favor of a new candidate, later going on to endorse Kamala Harris as the replacement nominee.
Hard feelings emerge
At the time of Clooney's op-ed, political pundits on both sides of the aisle assumed that the actor's stance was taken with the implicit support -- if not outright encouragement -- of his friend Obama, and it is the former president's actions -- or lack thereof -- since Harris' defeat that have reportedly left the star feeling betrayed.
According to the source who spoke with Radar Online, “George is furious with Obama for disappearing after the election disaster and leaving him holding the bag for pushing the plan with his Hollwood pals.”
Offering support for that claim was another source, who asserted, “George feels duped and vows he's not going to be anyone's political water boy anymore.”
“George feels he stepped up and took a bullet for the team, and now everyone's complaining about the bloodbath,” an insider revealed.
The same source declared of Clooney, “He thinks Obama should come forward and say that George did the right thing, and it isn't his fault that it didn't work out. But he doesn't expect that will be forthcoming, and it's left George feeling like a patsy.”
Not the only one
It is not just Clooney who has been left with a bitter taste about the debacle that the Harris campaign ultimately turned out to be, with Democratic Party donors also feeling burnout and regret, particularly given the continued, urgently worded fundraising emails with which they are still being bombarded, as Politico notes.
Considering that the Harris campaign reportedly raised well in excess of $1 billion only to lose to Trump in spectacular fashion, Democrats everywhere are wondering why they should continue to throw good money after bad, with liberal political consultant Mike Nellis recently forced to admit the obvious by stating, “stuff like that erodes trust.”
