Despite having had a contentious relationship since leaving office, former Vice President Mike Pence recently made a point of shaking President-elect Donald Trump's hand.

However, one member of the former vice president's family opted to keep her distance from Trump and his wife.

Karen Pence ignores Mr. and Mrs. Trump at Jimmy Carter's funeral

According to the Daily Mail, former Second Lady Karen Pence "refused to acknowledge" the president-elect or soon-to-be First Lady Melania Trump on Thursday.

That snub came as all were attending the funeral of former President Jimmy Carter, who passed away in his Georgia home late last month at the age of 100.

The Daily Mail noted how Trump and Pence fell out after the former insisted on certifying the results of the 2020 presidential election, a race which Trump claimed had been marred by fraud.

Pence went on to unsuccessfully challenge Trump for the Republican Party's 2024 nomination but dropped out of the race in October of 2023.

Pence did not endorse Trump last year

What's more, CNN reported this past March that Pence said he could not "in good conscience" endorse Trump's reelection bid, although he stopped short of endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris.

Nevertheless, Pence did offer words of praise for Harris earlier this week for presiding over the certification of Trump's recent election win in a social media post.

"The peaceful transfer of power is the hallmark of our democracy and today, members of both parties in the House and Senate along with the vice president certified the election of our new president and vice president without controversy or objection," he wrote.

"I welcome the return of order and civility to these historic proceedings and offer my most sincere congratulations and prayers to President Donald J. Trump and Vice President J. D. Vance on their election to lead this great Nation," Pence continued.

Pence: Harris was "admirable" for presiding over certification

The former vice president went on to "commend the members of the House, Senate and the Vice President who did their duty under the Constitution of the United States."

He stressed that Harris was "particularly admirable" for presiding "over the certification of a presidential election that she lost."

Pence concluded by stating, "God bless our new President and Vice President and their families and may God continue to bless the United States of America."
