President Donald Trump is suing CBS News over its allegedly deceptive editing of an interview it conducted with former Vice President Kamala Harris.

While that case has yet to be resolved, the lawsuit has apparently led one of Trump's fiercest critics to resign.

Executive producer: "I would not be allowed to run the show as I have always run it"

The New York Times reported on Tuesday that it had obtained a memo which "60 Minutes" executive producer Bill Owens sent to staff members.

Owens complained of how "over the past months, it has become clear that I would not be allowed to run the show as I have always run it, to make independent decisions based on what was right for '60 Minutes,' right for the audience."

"So, having defended this show — and what we stand for — from every angle, over time with everything I could, I am stepping aside so the show can move forward," he wrote.

Owens reportedly clashed with majority shareholder of CBS News' parent company

The Daily Caller noted how Owens has sounded a defiant tone when it comes to Trump's lawsuit over the interview with Harris.

The Times reported in February that sources said to be familiar with the matter quoted Owens as telling staff "[t]here have been reports in the media about a settlement and/or apology."

The veteran television producer went on to declare that "[t]he company knows I will not apologize for anything we have done."

Yet the Times observed that Shari Redstone, who is the controlling shareholder of CBS parent company Paramount, "is eager" for the Trump administration to approve the sale of her company to Skydance.

Jake Tapper to Redstone: "Hope the money’s worth it, Shari"

According to Mediate, CNN host Jake Tapper has accused Shari of allowing her personal interests to dictate policy at CBS News.

"Now, Shari Redstone is the majority owner of Paramount, and she stands to make a fortune if this multibillion-dollar deal, this merger, goes through," Tapper said on Tuesday's episode of "The Lead."

"And it seems as if Shari Redstone is likely to bend the knee to Trump and settle this allegedly frivolous lawsuit," the television personality continued.

"And that is the context of Shari Redstone’s likely bending of the knee. Hope the money’s worth it, Shari," Tapper went on to remark.
