The White House was directly involved in the FBI raid on former President Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago home last year, according to a new report.
Documents obtained by America First Legal from the National Archives have revealed a special access request that was part of the approval process.

"On August 8, 2022, the FBI conducted an unprecedented raid of Mar-a-Lago on the ground that potentially classified records existed there. According to press reports, Biden Administration aides were surprised to hear of this development," America First Legal tweeted.
"However, the new records we obtained from our investigation into the circumstances of the Mar-a-Lago raid reveal the Biden White House & DOJ coordinated to obtain the Trump records and perhaps create a pretext for the law enforcement raid by way of a 'special access request,'" it added.

“The evidence further suggests that Biden officials in the Executive Office of the President and the Department of Justice unlawfully abused their power and then lied about it to the American people,” Reed D. Rubinstein, senior counselor and director of oversight and investigations, said in a statement.
“This government, it seems, acknowledges no limits on its power to harass, intimidate, and silence its political opponents," it added.

The information contradicts multiple statements by White House officials who reacted as surprised at the raid of the former president's home.
The FBI seizure of items from Trump's Florida house led to the discovery of multiple classified documents. The details of the documents have not been released.
Since the events, President Joe Biden was found to have classified documents in his Penn Biden Center office and in his Delaware home.
Former Vice President Mike Pence also permitted a search of his Indiana home during which a few classified files were found.
The latest discovery reveals that despite the White House's surprised reactions, Biden officials were aware of the Mar-a-Lago raid and at least some leaders were involved in the approval process.
