Report suggests fugitive Texas Democrats will return to Austin in win for Trump

Earlier this month, most of Texas's Democrats lawmakers fled the state as part of an effort to block Republican efforts at redrawing the congressional map.

Yet in what would constitute a major victory for President Donald Trump, those Democrats are apparently ready to surrender.

Sources say fugitive Democrats will come back to Texas

That's according to Houston's ABC 13 Eyewitness News, which cited multiple sources who indicated that the legislators will return to Austin.

Meanwhile, the Texas Democratic Caucus issued a statement which referenced the need for relief following devastating floods which ravaged parts of Texas in July.

"Members are still assessing their strategies going forward and are in a private meeting to make decisions about future plans currently," it read.

"If and when Texas House Democrats breaking quorum decide to go home is squarely dependent on the actions the Governor, Speaker, and Texas Republicans in charge make with regard to prioritizing flood victims over redistricting that hurts Texans," the statement added.

Texas Senate passes new congressional map

Breitbart noted how Texas Democrats left so as to deny the legislature quorum and block it from approving a new congressional map will likely result in five new Republican seats.

The new map was approved by the Texas Senate on Tuesday and now only needs to be passed by the Texas House before it can be signed by Republican Gov. Greg Abbott.

Breitbart recalled how Abbott and Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton have threatened to have the Democratic lawmakers arrested and removed from office.

The president's party typically loses seats during midterm elections

"Texas House Democrats abandoned their duty and are holding flood relief and property tax cuts hostage," Abbot wrote in a social media post on August 4.

"I ordered Texas [Department of Public Safety] to arrest and return every derelict House Democrat to the Texas Capitol," he stressed.

The governor then went on to declare that his order would "remain in effect until all missing Democrats are accounted for."

The proposed map will likely come as a boon to President Trump, as history has shown that a governing party typically loses seats during midterm elections.
