Fox News quoted President Joe Biden as saying this past December that "there are more important things going on" when asked to justify his reluctance to visit America's southern border.
Yet in what comes off as a mega reversal, Biden is now accusing his Republican opponents of failing to take border security seriously.
According to Fox News, Biden made the allegation in a tweet on Sunday, asserting that GOP spending proposals "would slash funding for border security--a move that could allow nearly 900 pounds of fentanyl into our country."

That led to charges of hypocrisy from conservatives like Republican National Committee rapid response director Tommy Pigott, who tweeted, "Biden and Democrats blocked Republican efforts to hire 18,000 Border Patrol agents."
Pigott then recalled how rather than beefing up the Border Patrol, Biden fought to get funding for 87,000 new IRS agents.
Meanwhile, former Republican Arizona gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake told the president he has "blood" on his hands due to having "purposefully opened our border to allow our country to be invaded."
We are losing a generation of Americans to the poison of fentanyl because this buffoon purposefully opened our border to allow our country to be invaded.
That blood is on your hands, Joe.
Close the Border.
Shut Your Mouth.
Save Lives. https://t.co/dc0l7QEGup

This is not the first time that Biden has tried to pin the blame for border problems on Republicans, as he tweeted last week that the GOP is "undermining our ability to combat drug trafficking."
MAGA House Republicans put out extreme budget proposals that would eliminate funding for over 2,000 border patrol agents – undermining our ability to combat drug trafficking.

However, Border Patrol Chief Raul Ortiz told members of the House Homeland Security Committee earlier this month that not only has Biden halted new wall construction but has actually removed "perfectly good infrastructure system in some areas that we should have just left alone."

For his part, Arizona Republican Rep. Andy Biggs dismissed Biden's words as being "a total fabrication," saying, "In your 2024 budget proposal, you call for billion-dollar cuts to border security operations and ICE."
A total fabrication.
In your 2024 budget proposal, you call for billion-dollar cuts to border security operations and ICE.
By the way, it took you 80 years to get that picture. https://t.co/YqLa3ifWbe
